Yvonne wisely undertook her major wardrobe overhaul while her Mr. Wonderful was out of town, and by the time he returned she had accomplished some serious reorganizing.  You can see pictures of her new purchases and her newly ordered closet below …

Not only did she arrange garments in color groups, but she also hung her magnificent collection of scarves where she can see them and remember to use them.  Before, they were lovingly stored in Zip-Loc bags and virtually never worn because they were out of sight.  They will now become the road map to mixing and matching her expanded selection of solid pieces into new, unexpected color combinations with as much pizzazz as the explosion of pattern she is accustomed to wearing.  See them draped over the bottom bar of flocked hangers at the right side of this photo:

I’ll (immodestly) share her comment: Here is my closet…. and I’m amazed at the hundreds of options I have.   You are a frigging genius!  Thank you.  – Yvonne

She also purchased a couple of ready-to-wear color columns – matching bottom and top – in two of her darker colors – teal and forest green.  Can you imagine how many outfits she can create from those additions?  Here’s one – green column with caramel coat (she already owned – note the connection to her hair color) and one of the gorgeous scarves she re-discovered.  Great looking, no?

Her message: Long mushy thank you after my post-Nancy wardrobe “apocalypse and rebirth”.  Can’t thank you enough for your insight and guidance.   I visited Eileen Fisher and Nordstrom today and got a jump start on my new improved wardrobe by purchasing ready-made “columns” .  Add a few items I can make from the newly optimized fabric stash I’ll  be in great shape for our cruise in May.

I can’t wait to send you more, more and more photos as I progress so that you see the tangible difference you’ve made in my life.  Best, Yvonne

I’d love to help YOU love your wardrobe this much – either with a personal closet session or via the info in the LOOKING GOOD book, one of my live classes or articles on this blog.

We all deserve to fall in love with our appearance all over again.    Find the beginning of Yvonne’s story HERE.

I’m always amazed at how outfits jump out at me, once I got rid of unflattering colors in my closet.

That’s exactly what is supposed to happen – glad you’re finding it effective in your closet.

It always amazes me how important scarves are in our wardrobes. Hanging them has made a real difference for me too. And it makes it much easier to put together an outfit just by following the scarf colors.

When I’m doing a client’s closet, I think of her scarves – at least the ones that we decide to move forward into her “new” wardrobe – are a road map to building outfits. It’s like interior designers choosing an inspiration piece to set the color scheme for a room. Magic!

This is a great idea and I would love to learn more. I am in desperate need of my own wardrobe apocalypse. I attended one of Nancy’s events and came away with an awesome scarf whose colors compliment me. It has become my favorite!

Where do you live Cathy? I can travel and “apocalypse” anywhere. I know Yvoned would tell you it is life-changing.

    Hi Nancy,
Although I had heard you at an event a while ago, I just realized that you have this wonderful Blog. Your work and your clients are so interesting that I think you should publish this in a magazine. The makeovers apply to all of us and we can glean some insight from the clients you have helped.

Glad you discovered the blog – I’m sometimes amazed myself at how much great info is in the years’ worth of posts. And it’s fun sharing clients’ success stories with the rest of my audience – especially women who sew. If you have fiends you think would also find the info valuable, please forward the e-newsletter to them and suggest they subscribe too. The more the merrier! Especially those of us who sew need to be sure, before we tackle a project – that it is going to showcase us and coordinate with other pieces in our closets.

Yvonne looks great in her outfit! It’s helpful to see someone’s organized closet–very inspirational. This also inspires me to get some more scarves since I haven’t yet replaced all of them that were purged in my “Wardrobe Apocalypse.”

My color journey began with you, Nancy. It has single-handedly been the most influential investment. Not only do I shop smarter and faster, I’ve never looked and (most importantly) felt better. Over time, I’ve created a mini capsule wardrobe based off my fan and have worn it to death. Thanks for all you do.

So fun to hear from you Katie. I use the photo of you and your mom (that we took at the class) every time I do a seminar. It’s a great example of
“points of connection”. You are great looking to start with, so if you look even better that is a world-class endorsement of color theory!

Yvonne looks amazing and exudes confidence! Great job! And I love the column dressing and the subtleness of her scarf!
I’m so inspired to get my color wheel out and start organizing!
