Happy Summer Legs & Feet

Summer brings some special challenges for looking good and feeling comfortable in our shoes – especially after a year or more of mostly being home in our bunny slippers.  “Real” shoes – open toes, sling backs and bare sandals – all elongate our legs by leaving more skin visible.  But they can rub uncomfortably, and they often mean we won’t be smoothing our leg color with  hosiery. Here are some tips to solve those problems and step out in style this summer:

  • Smooth out the skin tone on your legs with Sally Hanson Airbrush Legs.  Available as lotion or spray in 5 skin-tone colors, it wipes on and covers freckles, veins and imperfections.  Stays in place – won’t rub off on clothing – until you remove it with soap and water.
  • For more subtle but lasting color, I love Jergens Natural Glow moisturizer plus color.  Available in 3 degrees of color at Walgreens and CVS stores.
  • Keep you arches supported – even in sandals and other minimalist footwear – with Dr Scholl’s Dream Walk hidden arch supports.  A clear, cushion-y product, they provide great support … invisibly!  Even in flip-flops.  You may want to use double-sided mounting tape to upgrade the built-in adhesive for longer wear.
  • Prevent blisters and discomfort in summer shoes with Body Glide Anti-Chafing Stick.  My husband uses it on sensitive body areas when he runs marathons … and I wear it to prance around in high-heeled sandals meeting him at the finish line.  It’s invisible, dry (never wet or greasy) and lasts all day.  Breathable, stain-free and anti-allergic.
  • Eliminate panty lines, white-pant see-through problems, thigh-rub (wearing skirts or dresses) and other summer discomforts with Jockey’s Skimmies Slipshorts. I love these more than any other undies – particularly the original fabric and the longer leg.  If you have any static problems, slip into the ladies room and either rub a dryer sheet over them or smooth wet hands over them to eliminate any cling.

And thanks to my friend Chris Daleo of Spa Nova for alerting me to FitFlops – great looking toe-post sandals with built-in arch support.  Chris works on her feet all day, so she knows a thing or two about comfort shoes.  Although Chris’s ChaCha Wedge (shown below) in no longer available, they have a wide variety of styles including a couple that come in silver, gold and even rose gold.fit flops
