Nothing says “double duty” like garments that are actually reversible.  And you may have reversibles hanging in your own closet and now even recognize them …

This fully reversible tweed jacket – part of the 10-Piece Capsule Wardrobe I just finished sewing up for the PatternReview.com contest – is admittedly one of a kind.  If you had something like that, you’d obviously know it.  I just wanted to brag onmyself. if you must know.  So here it is:

Pretty cool, no?

But the reversible you are much more likely to have on hand is a knit shell or tank with different neckline depths or shapes front and back.  As long as the fabric is stretchy enough to shape over your bustline without darts, you can reverse it front-to-back and have alternative necklines like this, to accommodate a variety of over-layer styles and a range of necklace shapes.

Try it.  I’m betting you’ll like it!

The jacket is gorgeous Nancy! I’ll have to check out pattern review to see how you did it. Seams must have been tricky.
The concept of turning a shell around is brilliant! So simple. I’m always hemming and hawing about which neckline to cut since it will vary depending on the neckline of my jacket or sweater. This solves everything!

Sometimes the best tips are the easy ones – those forhead-smack ones that make me say “why didn’t I think of that before?”
