Retail Recon: Better than Basic White

I often talk about how harsh and draining a bright white shirt or tee looks on almost everybody.  A subtle blush-pink is so much more flattering.  But I hear back from all of you that it is nearly impossible to find.  Good News:  I just found a terrific option!

It’s the Long-Sleeve Layering Tee from White House Black Market and it’s on sale for a limited time at half price in a beautiful color the call Heather Blush.  The flattering V neckline is finished with a double strip of contrast woven trim, and the same contrast is featured in a center back inset stripe.

This unexpected color looks fabulous highlighted with rose gold jewelry.  And it coordinates beautifully with nearly all of the basic neutrals.  See it below with gray, navy, soft brown and taupe.

A linking scarf polishes off each combination:  With navy or brown- Blush/Caramel Irises.  With gray, Black Smears.  My original pick with taupe is now sold out, but the Sedona-Scape in Rose – shown below  – is a perfect substitute.

Don’t miss the opportunity to add this incredibly versatile tee to your wardrobe, to wear now and right into Spring.

    Happy New Year!
Thank you, Nancy, for the helpful tip. I had never been into White House Black Market before. While the tee did not work out for me, I found turtlenecks with buttons on the sleeves in my colors.

Your Retail Recon is very helpful. The Pantone color of the year is periwinkle, which is one of my cool colors thanks to your help with my fan. If you see any good quality tops in that color, or in cool taupe, I would love to learn more.

I never shopped WH/BM much either because of their insistence on black and white for everybody – ugh! But recently they have been doing more and more color. I also found a great twist front top there that really narrows and elongates my torso – love it!
Like you, I am excited about Very Peri as color of the year – it’s a big fave of mine too. The one garment I’ve found in it so far is a print anorak at Soft Surroundings, but I’m sure more will be coming soon.
