Neutral + Color Mixes

Increasingly warm days prompted me to put some off-white toppers back into my wardrobe rotation.  My jean jacket and cotton sweater are breathable and hot-weather friendy.  And they are such a versatile neutral they can work into countless outfits.   Here are just a couple …

Last summer I unstitched and removed the bulky bottom band from the jean jacket and frayed the lower edge for a more flattering and comfortable fit.  Here it’s paired with off-black jeans and a knit top in a black and brown animal skin print on off-white.  It’s one of the rare skin prints that isn’t based in warm colors.  And the twist detail at the hemline breaks up the typical straight horizontal lower edge.

French heel pumps dress up the look; a chunky sandal would make it more casual.

The second outfit pairs the creamy cotton cardigan over a bright turquoise knit shell to top those same off-black jeans.  The turquoise border on the black and white paisley scarf provides the unifying element.  This is such an easy formula that I can duplicate it with a variety of under-layer colors: red, royal, jade green, hot pink for example. Here are some linking scarf options from our SHOP inventory for those various combinations:

How might you layer these same toppers with brown or navy jeans?
