Last week we created the start of a coordinated wardrobe with a Core Four in navy blue. Now let’s layer some accent-color over-tops onto the pants+shell and the skirt+shell columns and link the color combinations with accessories to polish off each outfit.
First we’ll create a sporty look with a faux suede cascade cardigan. Yes, we’re seeing lots of suede (real and faux) for Spring and Summer these days, but you can save this combo for cooler weather if your taste is more traditional. The plaid scarf and jaunty fedora give the combo added pizzazz.
Any shade from your red family works beautifully with navy. The bright red cardigan is the most high-energy choice. We linked it to our navy column with a nautical print scarf.
The coral jacket is especially flattering because of the uneven hemline, which avoids putting a horizontal color break across the mid-body. Wearing the jacket edges slightly separated invites the viewer’s eye to continue moving up and down the navy column to focus on your face.
The beautiful geometric print scarf connects the coral to the navy, but it also works with the navy column and blush-pink trench coat, creating a slightly more refined, feminine persona.
The green cardigan can also top either navy column – the skirt version as well as the pant one. We’ve included a blue/green scarf as a link. I also love using abalone shell jewelry to link a color combo like this one.
The same navy sandal, slouchy bag, watch and navy/gold stack bracelets work with all of these combinations. Notice that each of these toppers could also pair with the tee and dark-wash jeans for 5 more outfits.
Next time we’ll see what we can build from the skirt+jacket and the pant+jacket columns.
