Matchey-Matchey Combos Extend Wardrobe Options

There’s absolute magic in building wardrobe versatility with pairs of matching  pieces.  So when my favorite sewing site – – introduced a contest based on matching pieces I couldn’t resist jumping in.  Whether you sew or not, I think you’ll find some inspiration for your own closet in the results …

I actually made three “matchey-matchey” sets, all in a related pink and gray color scheme inspired by this gorgeous scarf:

Here are the three sets:  a print 2-piece jersey dress, a pink/gray tweed skirt and jacket, and a pink twin set.  If you are interested in the sewing details you can find them at this LINK.

Nice enough, right?  But they really “punch above their weight class” because gray is a Key Neutral in my wardrobe so they have lots of additional pieces to coordinate.

Foundational gray basics include jeans and dress pants, a ponte pencil skirt and light gray shell.  I can take my new pieces rght into cooler weather too, with a cozy light gray cardigan and a silver metallic turtleneck for holiday looks.  And an existing pale pink shell and cardi create evenmore options.

Footwear choices can define the dressiness and the seasonality of  a combination.  My options include a shiny silver sandal for summer or holiday looks, a basic pump for dressed up occasions and a perforated chunky sandal for a more relaxed vibe.

My target is always 3 outfits with any new piece I add to a wardrobe.  How dd we do?  Here are some options with the 2-piece dress:

And more ways to wear the tweed skirt:

And mixes to dress the fringed tweed jacket up or down:

Now it’s your turn.  How many combos can you find using only solid-color grments and linked with the inspiration scarf?  And how many MORE when you mix the gray or the pink solids with existing navy pieces in my closet?  Are you sold on the value of matchey-matchey pairs?  Can you find examples in your own closet?
