Making Holiday Outfits from Your Current Clothes

Wow – holiday parties and events – IN PERSON – many for the first time in ages!  Whether it’s the office party, a neighborhood open house, family gathering or church events, won’t it feel good to get dolled up?  What fun!!  And what to wear?? Here are some quick tips for adding festive touches to clothes you already own…

#1 – Expand your idea of holiday colors.  Sure, red and green are traditional.  But start by expanding your concept of “red” to include everything from deep berry to icy pink.  Include deep hunter greens and even deep sage as well as classic kelly green.

Add clear blues, bright teals and even warm mixes of chocolate, cinnamon and copper to your potential holiday pallette.

Pull items in those colors our of your closet and onto a garment rack for easy view.

#2 – Add touches of sparkle.  A sweater in your best metallic can make almost any outfit party-worthy. If you don’t own one, a quick trip to any upscale resale shop should give you affordable options.

#3 – Shift the mood by mixing dressier accessories with classic – or even casual – garments. A shiny shoe and a little evening clutch can do amazing things to re-define an outfit. Ditto for a glitter earring and a shawl or pashmina.  These are truly “must-have” items for any wardrobe.  Invest once and wear them for a decade of special events.  (PS: Resale is a great way to find these at bargain prices too.)
