After months of intermittent store closures, it’s no surprise to see huge mark-downs on women’s Spring/Summer clothing.  And many of us are more than ready for a wardrobe refresh.  But shelter-at-home has convinced  us that we don’t need MORE clothes; we need the RIGHT clothes.  Here’s my first round of picks …

Skimming the websites of women’s specialty stores, I started with j.jill, where I found some good basics in hard-to-find colors. These are especially valuable wardrobe extenders because you can buy them as over/under coordinates or top+bottom color columns.  And nearly all the pieces are available in Misses, Petite, Womens and Tall.  Special discounted pricing for the holiday weekend – check it out!

This teal green called Mediterranean is a nearly universally flattering color family because it is the color wheel opposite (compliment) of human skin.

It makes a bright summer combo with white/off-white denim, but carries right into Fall paired with nearly any neutral – black, gray, taupe, navy, chocolate or caramel brown.  Abalone shell jewelry is an deal accessory choice.

Blue Opal – a purple-y-blue periwinkle – is one of those elusive colors that doesn’t show up too often, but really pops, especially on gals with dark brunette, transitioning or silver hair.  Mix it with your hair color or navy.

Caraway – a sage tone, cooler than a true Olive green – is an under-recognized neutral with amazing versatility.  Especially flattering to any woman with green-tone eyes and others with mid-temperature, mid-value coloring.  Use it in surprising mixes with pale blush, dusty aqua, celery green or soft muted plum.

Which color will be the best pick-me-up for your closet?

So many people think of that range as Olive and just say “NO”. But it really is much cooler and a great creative neutral for so many women. Hope you’ll enjoy it.

Love the Mediterranean and the Blue Opal. The green would match my eyes and I love blue anything! I was once “colored” as a vibrant summer.

Wow, how unusual to have eyes in that color – lucky You!

I also love the Mediterranean teal and Blue Opal periwinkle. I have transitioned to my natural hair color, now a gray/silver combo so am taking a look at my closet that no longer is singing my song. These colors might be good candidates for an update!

Bet your new hair color is stunning. Wish mine would do that. The periwinkle should be killer on you. And the teal is great on just about everyone.

All three colors are beautiful. There may be some shopping in my future. Thanks for sharing.

Retail this time of year is so often filled with super-bright, super-cool colors that don’t flatter very many people. That’s exactly why I was so thrilled to find these!
