Bride-zilla? Mom-zilla?
With a 2-year backlog of weddings plus the newly-engaged crop, my inbox has been flooded with requests for help choosing M-O-B and M-O-G dresses. This mom was considering royal blue, but wanted some input on color choices.
Not that there were any “-zillas” involved in this situation, folks. Just being a smart-alec with that headline. Anyway here were some suggestions I came up with, collaged with a copy of Mom’s head pasted (not so artfully) onto each of them. Bridesmaids will be in a rich wine color. Which color do you like best for her?
My thought was that a blue-toned dark green or teal-ish blue would bring out here eyes more that the royal she was first drawn to. She ended up being drawn to those two herself.
I made these recommendations without knowing anything about her body type, but turns out she’s 5’8″ and 125# and would probably look good in a feed sack. Hopefully she has moved from dreading the spotlight to feeling excited about how great she can look. And that’s a lesson we can all take to heart.
I am in this boat now, with sage/olive green bridesmaid dresses . As mom of bride do I wear what compliments me in terms of color and style, match with other mother(s),? I am a non-traditional person and while I’d like my dress to be “me” I also don’t want my traditional daughter to be uncomfortable with any choice. I’d been hoping for a long decorative jacket over light shell and pants, not traditional bride shop dress.
Hi Liz –
I’m right in your boat! My daughter, who lives in New Orleans, is getting married in November. Outdoor early evening wedding. Colors: Sage and Cream. Like you, I’m a definitely a non-traditional person — the thought of wearing a M-O-B dress makes me cringe. So, my plan is palazzo pants with a decorative top (but, not too much!) I’d love to wear black pants with sage top, but will probably go with sage pants and cream top. Comfy!
